Fell down a bit of a rabbit hole this morning on “entropy” and had my mind blown. Ludwig Boltzmann came up with the equation for entropy and the second law of thermodynamics, but that’s not the crazy part. His theories presupposed the reality of atoms and molecules, but almost all German philosophers and scientists of the time disbelieved their existence. Boltzmann lived from 1844-1906.
